Mari-Liis Uibo

Mari-Liis Uibo (1990) started to play the violin at the age of six with teacher Ivi Tivik. 1997-2006 she studied at the Tallinn Music High School. Since October 2006 she is continuing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the violin-class of Professor Gerhard Schulz (Alban-Berg-Quartet).

Mari-Liis has successfully participated in several national and international competitions. 2004 she was finalist and prize-winner at the 1st World Violin Competition in Trento/Italy. She has been awarded diplomas at several ESTA Competitions for Estonian Young String Players. Since 2001 she has regularly taken part in summer-courses and masterclasses: Maestro Ivry Gitlis/France, Prof. Alexander Fischer/Sweden, Prof. Anatoli Reznikowski/St. Petersbourg, Sirpa Lannes-Tukiainen/Finland, ISA 09 – Interpretation of Contemporary Music/Klangforum Wien.

Since 1998 Mari-Liis Uibo has often been invited to participate in Estonian as well as international music-festivals, she has given solo-performances with different chamber-orchestras (A. Vivaldi, W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach) and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (F. Mendelssohn – Violin Concerto in E minor, D. Shostakovich – Violin Concerto No. 1).

Mari-Liis has gained recognition in Finland, Aland, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Italy, France (in Series “Nouvelle Europe, nouveaux talents”), Portugal, Germany (in Young Talent Concert Series) and Austria. In Juni 2008 she made a successful solo-performance with the chamber-orchestra „Russkaya Kamerata“ in Moscow at the 5th international festival „Moscow Meets Friends“ organized by the Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation.

2003-2005 Mari-Liis was concertmaster of the Tallinn Youth String Orchestra. She has taken part in several orchestra-projects (e.g. early music ensemble “Hortus Musicus”, Wiener Akademie Orchestra etc.) and is active as a chamber-musician.

In December 2007 her first CD „Bernsteinstraße“ (live concert-performance with Estonian music) together with organist Ulla Krigul was released in Vienna.
